A hot tub or spa draws far more power than a standard household circuit, and wiring it wrong creates real risk. Dunphy Electric handles the electrical side of your installation: circuit sizing based on your equipment's requirements, proper breaker selection, and wiring routed to meet your setup, whether it's a new install, a replacement unit, or a spa you're relocating in the yard.

How It Works

Our Hot Tub & Spa Wiring Process

Every backyard is different, so we start with a look at your equipment and existing electrical setup before any wiring begins.

01Step 1

Site & Equipment Review

We review your hot tub, spa, or sauna specs alongside your home's electrical panel to determine what the installation requires.

02Step 2

Panel Capacity Check

We check whether your panel has room for the new circuit, or whether an upgrade is needed before wiring can move forward.

03Step 3

Circuit & Disconnect Installation

We run a dedicated circuit sized for your equipment, install the required outdoor disconnect, and wire in GFCI protection.

04Step 4

Grounding & Bonding

Where applicable, we complete grounding and bonding work around the unit as part of the installation.

05Step 5

Testing Before Use

Before your equipment is powered on, we test the circuit and connections to confirm everything is working as intended.

Frequently asked

Hot Tub & Spa Wiring FAQs

Get clear answers about hot tub, spa & sauna wiring, preparation, timing, maintenance, and what to expect before requesting an estimate.

Q1

Do I need a dedicated circuit for my hot tub?

Most hot tubs and spas require their own dedicated circuit sized to the equipment's draw. Sharing a circuit with other loads isn't recommended and typically isn't allowed for this type of equipment.

Q2

Can I use an existing outdoor outlet instead?

An existing outdoor outlet usually isn't rated for the load a spa or hot tub pulls. We assess your current setup and let you know whether new wiring is needed.

Q3

Do I need an outdoor disconnect installed?

Spas and hot tubs generally need a disconnect switch located within sight of the unit so power can be shut off quickly during service or emergencies. We install these as part of the wiring job.

Q4

Will my electrical panel support a new hot tub?

It depends on your panel's age and current load. Older or fully loaded panels sometimes need a panel upgrade before a hot tub circuit can be added. We check this during our site visit.

Q5

How long does hot tub or spa wiring take?

Timing depends on your equipment, panel condition, and whether a panel upgrade is needed first. We give you a clearer timeline once we've reviewed your site and equipment specs.

Q6

Do you wire saunas as well as hot tubs?

Yes, we wire saunas alongside hot tubs and spas, including dedicated circuits and breaker sizing matched to the heater's electrical requirements.

Q7

Can you relocate wiring for an existing hot tub?

Yes, if you're moving a hot tub or spa to a new spot in your yard, we can rewire the circuit and disconnect to match the new location.
